Coaching Intuition

Can we coach intuition? Can we teach someone how to draw on their own inner (or outer) voice for clues to their root concerns? Our defense mechanisms shield us from learning about the hidden drives behind what we say and do, but our words are often unfettered. Much of what is not understood about what troubles a client is often revealed, paradoxically, in what they talk about openly.

A coach will often reflect back to a client what the client is saying but perhaps not actually hearing themselves say. Once a client becomes objectively aware of the story they are telling, they can begin to explore the “why?” behind the story. The expert coach becomes aware of unresolved issues by examining closely the words and emotions of the client. To a skilled, experienced coach they are vital clues!

Can the coach teach the client to create their own safe space, ability to listen for clues and eventually coach themselves…intuitively?
