COACHING VISION, METHODOLOGY, PHILOSOPHY, PURPOSE & FIT

Coaching Vision

As a coach, I endeavor to help you to fulfill your personal and professional potential by identifying and achieving your goals through the process of uncovering and addressing hidden derailers and blockages, and discovering and enhancing your strengths through the work made possible within the coaching relationship.

Coaching Methodology

I employ a self-as-coach methodology, wherein I focus on the development of six domains of my own inner landscape of self-awareness. This approach stems from cumulative, proven scientific developmental theories as demonstrated by Pamela McLean in her book, The Completely Revised Handbook of Coaching: A Developmental Approach. The domains are Presence, Empathetic Stance, Range of Feelings, Boundary Awareness, Somatic Awareness and Courage to Challenge (Ch 3). By deepening and fine tuning my own awareness of how I present myself within the coaching relationship I, myself become an instrument for change for you.

My Coaching Philosophy

As a coach I endeavor to be very present with and attuned to you as my client. I think of myself as a mirror. I seek to accurately reflect what I perceive to be emanating from you. I listen intently to your emotions and inner experience as much as the actual content of the session. This empowers me to deeply understand, empathize and partner with you while maintaining the ability to challenge you as needed. I utilize this process to establish the coaching relationship itself as a platform and a catalyst for discovery, growth, and change.

Purpose of Coaching

The purpose of coaching is to provide an opportunity for you to focus on the work of your own growth and development with the help of a professional trained in science-based approaches and experienced in proven coaching methods. Together, we commit to the work of exploring and addressing the challenges and/or goals you choose through dynamic discovery and the power of the coaching relationship.

Fit: Who Are My Clients?

Ideally, a good match for my coaching approach is a client that wants to explore in areas of critical thinking, self-development and increasing levels of awareness. I specialize in creating a safe space that enables clients to bring unwanted beliefs, thoughts and behaviors to their conscious awareness, thereby providing an opportunity to examine, challenge and ultimately replace them with more productive ones. The goal of this process is to free the client up to give themselves more choices and possibilities for their professional and personal lives, while also opening more possibilities for newly discovered goals and objectives. I desire to serve the client that is essentially looking for a breakthrough moment(s). Game-changing breakthrough moments require work at the roots rather than trimming and shaping of the branches and leaves.

If you are ready and willing to commit to the work of self-exploration and discovery, you will find an able, willing and committed partner in me. Our work together will help you to more clearly identify and understand your behaviors and thoughts, empowering you with more control, purpose and motivation to achieve your desired personal and professional objectives.

Please be aware that coaching is not a substitute for therapy. There is a clear division between coaching and psychological therapy. My approach is merely informed by the science of psychology. People in need of actual therapy are advised to consult a qualified therapist.

MY COACHING APPROACH: DYNAMIC AND MULTI-DISCIPLINARY

There are many different coaching styles and disciplines. In the book,* The Complete Handbook of Coaching, authors Cox, Bachkirova, and Clutterbuck, the authors examine various coaching disciplines, all with their own advantages and particular applications. I employ a dynamic approach that enables me to pivot between and/or blend approaches based on what serves the client best for their particular situation and needs at any point of the coaching engagement.

I utilize several different coaching approaches with some psychology-based styles as well as other scientifically grounded models such as Gestalt Coaching, Psychodynamic Coaching, Cognitive Behavioral Coaching, Solution-focused Coaching and more.

There is no singular perfect approach to coaching that suits every client in every situation. By specializing in a varied array of disciplines I am more able to shift dynamically within the coaching session or over the course of the engagement, also known as "dancing in the moment" (**Kimsey-House, 2018), so that I can serve the client with the most appropriate approach that will enable me to meet them where they are in the present moment, with respect and appreciation for their individuality and specific needs.
